Maryland Resident Wins $5M Lottery, Intends to Continue Working Current Job

56-year-old Dorchester County Lottery Player Wins $5 Million Prize

Many online memes depict a lavish lifestyle after winning the lottery, but for Troy Deneau, a 56-year-old lottery player from Dorchester County, Maryland, winning the lottery didn’t change his plans for the future.

Deneau, a dedicated lottery player, struck gold when he purchased three tickets for Maryland Lottery’s 50th-anniversary game, 50 Years!, at Dash In in Worcester County. While the first ticket won him a $75 prize, the second was a dud. However, the third ticket brought him an astonishing $5 million prize, making him one of the game’s top winners.

Excited about his windfall, Deneau revealed that while the money will help with his retirement, he does not plan to stop working. Despite initially considering retiring after winning, Deneau decided to continue working as the owner of a small fire protection company, where he has been dedicated for the last 30 years.

This isn’t the first time Deneau has won big from the 50 Years! game, having previously won prizes ranging from $100 to $10,000. The $5 million prize is the second out of three $5 million grand prizes for the game, in addition to several other smaller prizes.

As a testament to Deneau’s luck, Dash In, the store where he purchased the winning ticket, will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Deneau’s story is a reminder that not everyone’s plans change drastically after winning the lottery. While many dream of quitting their jobs and adopting a new lifestyle, some winners, like Deneau, choose to continue their current path, using the money to secure their future without making drastic changes.
