Menominee Indian Tribe Plans to Invest $360M in New Hard Rock Casino Resort

The Menominee Indian Tribe is pushing forward with plans to establish a partnership with the Hard Rock brand owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Despite facing strong opposition, the Seminole Tribe of Florida recently launched sports betting in Florida, and the Menominee Indian Tribe is hoping to follow suit.

The Menominee Indian Tribe is determined to proceed with their ambitious plans, including the construction of a 70,000-square-foot casino that will feature 1,500 slot machines, 55 live dealer table games, and a sportsbook. The tribe has already secured the right to run sports betting operations in Wisconsin through a tribal compact negotiated with the state.

The proposed casino resort is estimated to cost $360 million, and the tribe is resolute in their commitment to seeing the project come to fruition. The Menominee Kenosha Gaming Authority chairman, Joey Awonohopay, expressed his optimism about the project, emphasizing the importance of securing funding to bring the plans to life.

This is not the first time the tribe has attempted to establish a casino resort, but previous endeavors were hindered by opposition from former Governor Scott Walker. Despite the challenges, the tribe is determined to overcome obstacles and secure the necessary approvals and support to move forward with their plans.

One of the major hurdles the tribe faces is the need to purchase 60 acres of city-owned land in Kenosha. However, the acquisition of the land alone is not enough to transfer sovereignty to the tribe, and federal government intervention would be required to facilitate the process.

In addition to the land acquisition, the tribe would also need to negotiate a new tribal compact to seek permission for Class III gambling operations in the state. Although Governor Tony Evers may have a different stance on gambling, the tribe remains determined to demonstrate the potential benefits of their project to the city and the state.

The Menominee Tribe is actively working to raise awareness about their plans and gain support for their proposed casino resort, and they are confident in their ability to bring significant value to the community and the local economy.
