Mohegan Sun Baccarat Dealer Allegedly Rigged Games

Yu Wen Fu, a 64-year-old baccarat dealer at Mohegan Sun, is facing charges after allegedly manipulating games, resulting in a substantial $124,000 loss for the casino. The alleged malpractice was uncovered by tribal police on April 21, 2023, after a pit manager observed Fu handling cards suspiciously. Surveillance footage captured Fu setting up the deck in a specific order before a particular player, Haoen Jiang, approached the table. This raised concerns as it deviated from the standard procedure of washing cards on the table.

Further investigation revealed a pattern of collusion between Fu and Jiang, with the casino’s losses totaling $124,260 between March 29 and April 20, 2023. It was alleged that Fu signaled the appearance of the number nine in the game of baccarat by strategically placing face cards in the deck. Despite denying collaboration with Fu, Jiang had Fu’s cell phone number on his device and was subsequently ejected from the casino, facing no charges.

Fu, who has been suspended pending investigation, maintains his innocence, claiming that any cards accidentally turned face up during the wash were merely fixed without rearranging them for personal gain. However, he was arrested on November 15 and faces charges of first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny (four counts), and third-degree larceny. Fu was released on a $25,000 bond and arraigned in New London’s Part A court on January 8.
