Responsible Gambling Progress: Sweden’s Top Operators Lead the Way

Leading Swedish gambling operators Svenska Spel, Kindred Group, and ATG have provided an update on their responsible gambling activities in Sweden for the latter half of 2023. Despite the challenges posed by the prevalence of harmful gambling, the operators reported positive outcomes resulting from their efforts to curb the issue.

Svenska Spel, for instance, engaged with 1.9% of its players during the second half of the year to address potential gambling-related harm. Following their intervention, an impressive 74.8% of the identified at-risk players reduced their gambling activities, while 49.7% began making lower deposits. Additionally, 9.4% of the contacted players chose to self-exclude for a minimum period of six months, with 3.7% opting for longer exclusion periods.

Moreover, the operator revealed that 75.6% of the engaged players in its Sports & Casino segment and 49.6% in its Tur arm successfully decreased their gambling activities and deposits. Meanwhile, Kindred Group contacted 0.5% of its customers regarding their spending habits. The company reported that 78.2% of the contacted players reduced their gambling, surpassing the figures from the previous reporting period.

Kindred also disclosed that 78.6% of the contacted players decreased their deposits, and 2.2% opted for self-exclusion, with 1.6% choosing a period of over six months. Additionally, Kindred shared an update on its Journey towards Zero initiative, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding players from harm.

On the other hand, ATG interacted with 1.5% of its Swedish player base during this period, with 56.4% of those players successfully reducing their gambling activities and 59.9% choosing to decrease their deposits. However, it was noted that these figures represented a decline from the preceding reporting period.

Despite recording fewer successful interactions compared to the first half of the year, ATG indicated that 1.5% of the customers it engaged with decided to self-exclude for at least six months.

The collaborative efforts of these major Swedish operators underscore their dedication to promoting responsible gambling practices and mitigating the potential risks associated with excessive gambling. These initiatives not only demonstrate the operators’ commitment to the well-being of their customers but also set a positive example for the wider gambling industry.
